CGHS Cell Phone Policy

Center Grove High School will enforce the CGHS Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy*, per SEA 185 (Indiana Technology Law). Students will be expected to refrain from using cell phones and other electronic communication devices during instructional times. (We will continue to use iPads for instruction.)

To promote a conducive learning environment and ensure student well-being, we are implementing a common sense approach using the following guidelines:

• Our Goal: To help students stay focused on their academic and personal growth while providing clear boundaries for technology use.
• Instructional Times: Electronic devices should not be used during class periods to minimize distractions and maximize learning engagement.
• Designated Times for Use: Students may use their electronic devices during:
  • Passing periods
  • Lunch breaks
  • Study hall periods
• Benefits of the Policy: Research indicates that limiting screen usage:
  • Enhances learning outcomes
  • Reduces incidents of bullying and harassment
  • Improves student mental health
• Emergencies: Contact the high school office, and we will assist in reaching your student so you can speak with them. Similarly, if a student needs to contact you with an emergency, they should report to the office, so we can assist them. 

* Students who utilize electronic devices to monitor medical conditions (per their IHP) will be permitted to use the devices for those purposes.
